Mr. Toad Trading Pins
jump to: Mr. Toad Nylon Case
Disney pins from Disney Parks including Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom are popular around the world. Mr. Toad; his friends Cyril, Moley, Ratty, and McBadger; Mr. Toad's Wild Ride; and a variety of Disney characters such as the Mad Hatter, Tinkerbell, Chip 'n' Dale; and others are featured on trading pins related to J. Thaddeus Toad of the famous Toad Hall.
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
Many pins feature Mr. Toad's Wild Ride as an original Disneyland attraction, opening with the park in 1955. This pin from 2005, for example, shows Toad in his motorcar with a dangle on the pin that says, "Original Attraction." It was a surprise release in a limited edition of 550 pins.
This pin was issued to cast members (limited to 750) in 2010 for the 55th anniversary of the Disneyland ride.
This pin represents a poster promoting Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. It was released in 2008, as a limited edition of 300 (original price: $8)
In 2005, for Disneyland's 50th anniversary, one vehicle from each of Disneyland's Opening Day attractions was painted gold. This pin celebrates that special anniversary event.
Several pins show scenes from inside the Mr. Toad Disneyland attraction, including this 2007 pin featuring Angus McBadger, barely balancing atop a bookcase ladder.
Lost Keys of Disneyland
The 2012 Annual Passholder exclusive open edition pin collection features locks for Disneyland attractions. Each pin contains a hook to attach the limited edition Annual Passholder key collection pins. The Mr. Toad's Wild Ride Attraction pin is #88235.
The "key" to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is the second in a series of six pins in the Annual Passholder exclusive limited edition pin collection, which features "The Lost Keys of Disneyland Resort." It was released on January 19, 2012, at Disneylan, and is a limited edition of just 3,000.
The top part of the key shows a crest featuring the dapper Mr. Toad in the middle. Underneath is a scrolled ribbon that says, "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride." The bottom of the key shows Mr. Toad's motor car, empty as it appeared when it was parked by the weasels in front of Winky's Tavern.
The key has a corresponding lock (pin 88235). The chain on top of the lock can be used to attach the key to the lock.
When sold, the lock is typically on a generic card or not on a card at all. This is because the lock pin is part of a set (original retail price was $54.95):
Building Walt Disney World: One Story at a Time
Though the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride attraction is no longer at Disney World, Florida gets into the pin act with the Florida Project: One Story at a Time series. A limited edition (750) pin was released September 9, 2011, to commemorate the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride construction of Walt Disney World Resort, which opened October 1971. Quynh Kimball and Mike Sullivan created the original artwork for these pin.
The hard hat on the purple folder's front is included as a pin-on-pin element. The hinged pin opens to shows Pluto painting a portrait of Mr. Toad in the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride attraction. The tab on the file reads "Tally Ho." It is about 2" tall and 2-1/8" wide closed, and 3-7/8" wide opened.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Several pins commemorate the movie that started it all, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
Countdown to Millennium
Pin 89 The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
This 1998 pin depicting the movie poster (one sheet) is from the 75th Anniversary One Sheets collection, a set of 36 one sheets from every animated full-length Walt Disney film. The set is a limited edition of 1000.
This 2004 pin celebrates the 55th anniversary of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (limited edition of 3000):
Walt's Classic Collection is a set of 4 pins, with 2 depicting scenes from the Legend of Sleepy Hallow half of the film, and 2 depicting scenes from Mr. Toad half.
Wind in the Willows
The 1949 movie The Adventures of Mr. Toad opens with a pan of a library of classic books, including Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. The book opens to show an illustration of Mr. Toad on the title page.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad pin from the 2002 Storybook Pin Set #6 is a hinged pin that depicts the library sequence in the movie. The red book opens to reveal the title page of Wind in the Willows. It is the animated adaptation of the book that gives us The Adventures of Mr. Toad.
Mr. Toad and Friends
The hard-to-find 8-pin set from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad feature Mr. Toad, his friends--Cyril, Ratty, Moley, and Angus McBadger--and the villains--the prosecutor (turned judge in the movie), a weasel, and Mr. Winky. The set is a limited edition of 1500.
This 2005 spinner pin has two scenes that rotate around the center. Mr. Toad and Cyril dash through the English countryside in one scene. Toad Hall is shown in the other. Toad's friends Moley and Ratty stay fixed in the center. It's a limited edition of 250.
Mr. Toad is shown with his friends Moley and Ratty, standing around friend Angus McBadger, who is busy trying to reconcile all the bills due from Toad's misadventures and manias. It is a limited edition of 3500 from 2000.
In 2006, the "Piece of Disney History - Halberd Prop from Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" pin designed by Rachael Sur from Disney Design Group was released in a limited edition of 2500. It was the fourth pin in the Piece of Disney History series.
Much like contemporary baseball cards containing relics such as jersey swatches and pieces from game-used baseball bats--or even hair from famous presidents like Abraham Lincoln--this Disney pin contains pieces of halberd props used in the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride attraction that was at Disney' Magic Kingdom in Florida from October 1, 1971 to September 7, 1998. A halberd is a pole weapon that has a hook on the back side of an axe blade, used against opponents wearing armor.
The 2011 Disney pin collection called "Piece of Disney Movies" highlights a classic Disney film each month. The April 2011 pin features Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland. Each pin contains a unique frame of film. The one shown here includes a fabulous frame of the Mad Hatter at his tea party. Hopefully, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad will be commemorated in a similar pin in the series.
The Disney 110th Legacy Collection pin with Ichabod and Mr. Toad pin also is one that frames the center image. In this limited edition of 250, the framed center makes it appear as though Walt Disney was there with Toad. This pin, released May 3, 2011, is available at the Disney store for $19.95.
Mr. Toad Wallet and ID Card
The 2013 Disneyland Resort cast member exclusive pin is a hinged pin that looks like a leather wallet (it's metal; the design is just reminiscent of leather). A coat of arms is raised in the center. When the pin is opened, the left side looks like it has slots for cards. The right side reveals an ID card for Mr. Toad. The ID number for Mr. Toad is 07171955, which is the date that Mr. Toad's Wild Ride opened at Disneyland: July 17, 1955. It was released in January 2013 in a limited edition of 1000.
Of course, this is not Mr. Toad's first ID card. This 2008 pin shows his Disney Imagineering ID card. It's a limited edition of 300.
